Baby Animals

Over the last few months we had been noticing a squirrel or two that would run across our porch carrying an assortment of leaves... Then J took us over beneath the porch where we could see two squirrels darting around beneath the hot tub. That next week the girls and I were looking through the glass doors to our porch when we saw the cutest little miniature squirrel! We had a nest of baby squirrels underneath the hot tub. So far the most we've seen at the same time is three- yesterday we saw three babies (or youngsters by this point) and an adult. These pictures were taken probably two weeks after we first saw them- these two were just playing together on the porch. They were still too scared to really leave the hot tub, but were alternating pushing each other around and then smoothing each others fur. Having grown up in the desert, with a shortage of just this sort of closeness of animal life, I am fascinated by how much surrounds us out here on the east coast.
